Financial aid for studies
When you study you can apply for financial aid (studiestöd). Financial aid for studies refers to the various grants and loans for which you may be eligible when you attend a college, university, adult secondary education programme (Komvux), folk high school or upper secondary school. Your age is one of the factors that determine the kind of aid that you may receive.

Studies outside Sweden
Many factors determine whether studies abroad qualify you for financial aid for studies. Here are some of the most important requirements.

In order to receive student aid, your studies must:

be full-time (inside EU, your studies may at present be part-time)
last for at least 13 weeks (inside EU, it is at present enough with three weeks)
end with an exam or lead to a degree
be approved (if outside Scandinavia) by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education
be approved by CSN (if at the upper secondary level outside Scandinavia)
be supervised by the government - and (if in Scandinavia), equivalent studies in Sweden must qualify you for student aid.

If you are age 16-20 and will be attending upper secondary school abroad,
you may apply for a study allowance. Your studies must:

be full-time
last for at least three months
be run or supervised by the government (if in Scandinavia)
be approved by CSN (if outside Scandinavia).

Normally, only Swedish citizens are entitled to student aid for studies outside Sweden.
However, CSN may make an exception from this rule for EU nationals and their relatives.
